Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
