Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent honors show approaches, there’s always an outcry for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
